I am in favour of banning advertising aimed at children, because they cannot understand it the way adults do. First, children have not yet developed their critical thinking. Before a certain age, they do not understand that an advertisement is trying to sell something and they easily believe what they are shown. Companies use friendly characters, music and colours to create an immediate desire, and it is hard for a child to resist. Next, this advertising puts families under pressure. A child who absolutely wants a toy or a packet of sweets asks for it constantly, which creates arguments and pushes some parents to buy out of tiredness or guilt, even if their budget is limited. Moreover, a large part of these advertisements concerns very sugary products, which encourage obesity and dental problems. Admittedly, companies say they need to make their products known, and advertising partly funds television channels and free sites. However, they keep the possibility of addressing parents directly, who are the ones who buy. In short, this ban protects the youngest without preventing business from operating normally.
