A fortnight ago, we spent a whole day walking in the mountains with six friends. We left at seven in the morning and the climb to the summit lasted four hours. The slope was steep and I almost gave up, but the view of the lake, far below, gave me energy. At the top, we ate our sandwiches in silence, impressed by the landscape. Here is some advice for preparing well. Before leaving, always check the weather and choose a trail suited to your level. Wear good hiking boots and take at least two litres of water. Also let a relative know your route. Finally, leave early: you must be back before nightfall. With these precautions, hiking becomes a real pleasure.
