Hello, sir, I'm calling about the ad for your chess club that welcomes beginners. My name is Paul, I'm thirty-two, and I'd like to rediscover the pleasure of playing. I know the rules, but I play very little, only with my brother from time to time. Could you give me some information, please? First of all, what days and what time do you meet? Wednesday evening at seven, OK, I'll note that. How long does an evening last? Where is the club's room? Is it close to a bus stop or a metro station? Very good. How many members does the club have, and how old are they in general? Hmm, I wonder whether I'll be the youngest or the oldest, but I suppose it doesn't matter much. Is there a coach to help new players? Do you organise classes for beginners, or only friendly games? If I understand correctly, the first hour is devoted to a short lesson, then we play freely. Is that right? Are there tournaments during the year, and is it compulsory to take part? How many people at my level are there in the club? What is the amount of the annual membership fee? Excuse me, could you repeat, I didn't hear the figure properly? Sixty euros a year, OK, that's very reasonable. I had looked at another club in the city centre, but the fee was a hundred and fifty euros, so your price seems much better to me. Is there a reduced rate for students or the unemployed? Is the equipment provided, with the chessboards and the clocks, or do I have to buy my own? Can I come and watch an evening before signing up? Do I need to let you know in advance? Can we also play online with the other members between meetings? Is the club open during the summer? Do I need to present a document for registration, such as an ID or a medical certificate? Could you also confirm these details by email? One more thing: are the games timed, or do you play without a time limit at the beginning? And is there a library with books about openings to help me improve? Ah, very good. And lastly, do the members analyse their games together after the evening? That would help me a lot. Thank you very much for your welcome and your patience. I'm looking forward to coming next Wednesday. See you soon, sir.
