  • This is a story: use the passé composé for events and the imparfait for background (j'avais dix-huit ans, je travaillais).
  • Include when, where, what you did, what you learned and how you felt.

English

My first job was a summer job in a restaurant when I was eighteen. I had a short interview with the boss, who hired me the same day. At the beginning I was very shy and I made mistakes: one day I spilled a tray in front of customers. Fortunately my colleagues helped me and we laughed together. I learned on the job to serve customers, to work fast and to stay polite even when I was tired. My salary was modest, but I was proud to earn my own money. At the end of the summer, I had saved enough to buy my first computer. This experience taught me a sense of responsibility, and I still remember it fondly.
